The building of the souls

I have never noticed it. I've been to that place many times but it was like it never existed . It's the old sanatorium of mountain Parnitha.
The story is as follows...
In the beginning of the 20th century a great percentage of Greek people suffered from tuberculosis but there were not enough places for treatment, so in 1912 the management of the hospital ''Evagelismos'' decided to create a sanatorium in an area on mountain Parnitha that was donated by the Holy monastery of Asomaton - Petraki.
The sanatorium started operating in 1916 with the capacity of 33 rooms, but over the years and due to a big demand for treatment, the building got extended (1934-1936) and reached 187 rooms.
During the years 1937-1938 the poet Yannis Ritsos was hospitalized in the sanatorium and wrote his poem ''Spring Symphony''.
The sanatorium declined in the early 50's with the discovery of penicilin but it didn't close until 1960 due to the lack of patients.
In the period between 1961 and 1965 the building was bought by the national organisation of tourism and was transformed into a hotel under the name ''Xenia''. The reason why this change didn't thrive is still unknown.
In 1967 the building accomodated the organization of touristic training and education. They remained there until 1984 since they moved in modern facilities in Anavissos, Attiki.
By then many efforts where made to seal the building and ban any entrance without success.
There are rumours that the building is haunted, that you can see and hear ''weird'' things, it didn't happen to me, probably because i went during the day (i wouldn't dare to go at night).
Maybe i didn't hear or see something, but i certainly felt a lot. Those walls carry the burden of the memories  of past years from the people who lived, died, cured, rested, educated, searched for the unknown and left their mark by writing or painting on the walls.
One of my best experiences.
